Jen Woods has been a Charlotte creative since the early 2000s. She began her undergrad in Ceramics but quickly realized that she could fall in love with any medium in her grasp and changed her concentration to mixed media.
While completing her art degree, she had the privilege of belonging to one of Charlotte’s first artist collectives, God City. God City’s work was showcased across the East Coast and had a large impact on creating and declaring space in Charlotte’s art scene for future artists of color. She was an art teacher with the Mint Museum for several years, working with youth in the historic Grier Heights community. During her time at the Mint, she was honored with a project to create a pin for Madame Secretary Madeline Albright, and was able to meet and speak alongside her.
Art remains a constant in Jen’s life- in 2015 she established her brand, Jenuine Goods, and in latter years her artistry has taken even more forms through gardening, home design projects, calligraphy, and personal cheffing. Jen believes there is an artist in every one- the challenge is just finding your own Yes- and that the catharsis and expression in art is one of Life’s greatest gifts.
